As we look forward to some time off, many of us are thinking about clocking-off and going on holiday. But in our permanently switched-on society, it’s become the norm to check emails from the beach while trying to make the most of our time away from the office.

So it’s no surprise that one of the biggest trends of 2012 is for a digital detox – people seeking out ‘cold spots’ where technology doesn’t reign and you can’t use your phone.

In an article for The Sunday Times Style Magazine, Martin Raymond co- founder of the trend forecasting think tank The Future Laboratory says, ‘Increasingly, we’re seeing that people are craving more time to contemplate and meditate. The brain needs to think and relax, to find head space to come up with solutions and be creative… Being constantly connected is proving to be a problem. We need to give people time alone to get off the grid.’

If this sounds familiar, and makes you anxious just thinking about it, use some of your downtime to find the perfect holiday escape.

Our Constance hotels offer the ideal bolt hole, where you can immerse yourself in a world of natural beauty. While we won’t ask you to check in your laptop and iPhone, you will be able to indulge in walking barefoot on powder soft sand, swimming in the ocean with brightly coloured marine life, and dining al fresco under beautiful star-lit skies.

And these treasured moments will last a lifetime in your memory.

While making changes to your everyday life can significantly reduce your stress levels, taking a break from it all can make it easier to instigate that change.
