A day at the office for a Constance dive master means spending much of the day exploring the beautiful waters of the Indian Ocean.
In the first of a series of interviews we ask the dive masters of Constance Moofushi and Constance Halaveli to reveal their best dive ever.
Miles, Bluetribe Dive Centre: Constance Moofushi
It was February and we went to the Bojamodi, one of our popular dive sites about 10 minutes boat-ride from Moofushi.
Located on the south corner of the south pass of Moofushi, it is an oceanic pass, which means that you dive right at the edge of the atoll. It is sheltered from the current and is only around 15 metres so it’s a great spot for beginners.
We dive here often as this is our local Manta Point. On this day as we descended to the bottom and neared the Manta cleaning station everyone was excited as we could already see our group of resident Mantas gathered there surrounded by the cleaner fish which remove the small pieces of plankton trapped in the gills.
All of a sudden I could hear noises coming from some of the divers who were telling me, ‘look, look!’. There, swimming slowly through the middle of all the Mantas, was a large whale shark (around 10 metres). Seeing the two together made it an amazing dive and, of course, we have the picture in the dive centre to show everyone.
This is not a normal sighting, in fact it was the first and last time we have had the privilege to have such an amazing encounter with both Mantas and Whale Sharks together. Quite an incredible dive.
Constance Moofushi
Constance Moofushi is a diver’s paradise set in the heart of the stunning South Ari Atoll. A chic castaway island with its own style of barefoot luxury, visitors can dive by day and share tales of all they’ve seen over cocktails in the beach bar by night.
