Perfect your swing with these top golf tips

Golf
Reading Time: 4 minutes

Change your grip! Keep your head down! Adjust your stance! Golf is a game that is full of tips, and you have probably heard quite a few of them over the years.

At the Constance Golf Resorts, we want to make sure that you can improve your golf swing in the most relaxed way. So, whether you just want to practice your swing for your own sake, or you’re preparing for a tournament, like our MCB Tour Championship in Mauritius, here are some top pro tips to improve your swing.

Our top 5 golf swing tips

1. Strengthen the muscles used in a golf swing

Without strong, flexible muscles in your stomach, lower back, hips and butt, you will have problems to make a golf swing that is both powerful and technically correct. Regular exercising to strengthen these muscles is therefore an important step to improving your golf swing.

Practice your Swing at one of Constance’s pro golf courses

Recently, more and more pro golfers are using yoga and Pilates to strengthen core muscles and improve flexibility in the spine, hips and shoulders to add power to their golf swing.

2. Watch how the pros do it

Golf
Try out tech such as The Zepp.

There may be no substitute for actually getting out on the course but when that’s not possible YouTube can be a great tool in perfecting your swing. Watch some of your golfing heroes and follow the golf analysis provided by PGA golfers to really understand how the professionals get so much power into their swings. Slow it down, watch it frame by frame and you will uncover the secret to the perfect golf swing.

3. Get advice from a PGA pro

No matter how good your game, every golfer has room for improvement so it’s well worth taking a few lessons to let a pro look at your swing and iron out any problems.

Use your holidays at Constance Hotels & Resorts to sign up for some personalised golf lessons at our Golf Academy in Mauritius, where our pro teachers will give you some expert golf tips on improving your grip, posture, alignment and ball position.

If you don’t have time for lessons on the green take a look at some of the excellent tutorials available online.

4. Video tape your own golf swing for analysis

Play in beautiful surroundings, capture the natural relaxation and improve your game

Many pros agree that watching your own golf swing can be one of the most effective ways to improving as it allows you to see what you might be doing wrong, even when it feels right.

If, however, you can see the problem but don’t seem able to correct it you might want to consider sending the video off to a golf pro to get their feedback through a service like Golf Channel’s ‘Swing Fix’. Email through your video, select a pro from their extensive list and the pro will take a look and email a video analysis of your golf swing back to you.

5. Embrace the new technology

Golf pros such as Keegan Bradley are using gadgets like golf swing monitors to get instant feedback on each swing. The Zepp is just such a gadget with a tiny chip which clips to your glove to give you instant swing feedback including 3D swing imaging, club speed, swing plane, tempo, backswing position and hip rotation. Link it to the app on your smart phone or mobile device and you can watch it back and even compare your swing to the pros!

My husband really likes to golf and so I am starting to get into it. However, I’m not that good, but would like to get better. I really like your idea of taking a video of my golf swing so that I can get it analyzed and get some feedback. I never knew that that type of service existed and so I might want to look into it so that I can get better and compete against my husband.

Sounds like a good plan! And thanks for sharing. There’s lots of news apps now and ways to analyse a swing better – let’s hope it can work for us all.

I never thought Yoga or Pilates could help strengthen the muscles needed for a golf swing. I will have to look at attending those classes at my gym. Also, I really like the idea of using technology to give you advice on your swing. The idea of getting an analysis report immediate sounds good to me. Therefore, I can see what I am doing wrong immediately.

Thanks for commenting. There’s so much we can do to improve our golf swing isn’t there? Some of it isn’t immediately obvious. Good luck anyway.

Checkpoints needs to be followed for perfect swing posture. The fist is keeping your shoulders over the knees and knees over the shoulders. Mirrors are great for golf because they give you instant feedback. You can also take dry-erase markers and mark the mirror with specific points of importance. For instance, get setup properly and then have someone mark your head level, a vertical line marking the back of your butt, a vertical line for your knees and a angled line up your spine. These markers will help you practice your routine so that it becomes a perfect habit. It is also a good idea to leave the points there so you can go back to them whenever you need a posture refresh (usually every 2-3 weeks).

I liked your advice about using yoga and Pilates to create better form. My friend’s husband is really into golf and he’s been trying to improve his swing more. I think I’ll pass this tip along and maybe it will be something that they can do together.
