Reading Time: 4 minutes

The winter season may be the most wonderful time of the year for some, but for others it’s more of a long, cold and miserable wait for the return of warmer weather and sunshine!

Dark winters can affect all of us negatively – in some cases it might just be increased tiredness and grumpiness but for others, seasonal affective disorder (SAD) can be very serious. Maybe it’s time for a winter sun escape…

So why should you consider leaving the cold behind in search of some glorious sunshine?

  1. Sunshine improves your mood

It’s simple – sunshine makes us happier!

It naturally boosts levels of the hormone serotonin, leaving you feeling happier and less stressed. What’s a holiday for if not to help you kick back and relax?

  1. Better sleeping patterns

Your body clock is based around natural light levels, so on cold, dark mornings in the depths of winter you might find it much harder to get out of bed…

Longer, brighter days will make you feel more awake during the day while also helping you sleep better at night. Now that’s a double win!

  1. Sunnier days, healthier body

There’s plenty of evidence that a decent amount of exposure to the sun can help improve your health in lots of ways.

The sun can help ease some skin conditions, but make sure you don’t overexpose yourself. Sticking to the shade during the hottest part of the day, wearing sunscreen and covering up when necessary will help you reap the benefits of those brilliant beams without damaging your skin.

Your skin naturally produces vitamin D when exposed to sunlight, which contributes to healthy bones as it helps you absorb calcium. There’s also evidence showing that vitamin D is good for your memory, improves general aches and pains and could even help fight cancer.

Need any more incentive to take a sunny holiday?
