Where to stay at Constance: Tsarabanjina

Reading Time: 2 minutes

We can all recognise that feeling of slow burnout – the one that slowly creeps up, where all you can do is hold out for your next holiday, unable to focus on anything else.  Of all the Constance hotels and resorts strung across the Indian Ocean, Constance Tsarabanjina is the one that has captured the hearts of guests who are looking for that detox from the everyday world.

Set on its own private island just off the north west coast of Madagascar, this small boutique resort consists of just 25 simple stylish rosewood beach villas, strung along an unspoilt stretch of beach backed by the lush interior of the island.

The vibe here is very much laidback barefoot chic. Every effort has been made to ensure that guests have access to the little luxuries that can make all the difference – from air conditioning in the villa to a mini bar stocked with premium drinks and tasty snacks.

But it’s the immersion into a remote part of the world that comes to be the antidote our guests are seeking, the elixir that puts the spring back in their step.

As soon as you arrive on the island by boat, you’re welcomed by staff along the shoreline (by the way, the general manager wears a pareo). There’s no dress code here, and most people go barefoot for the duration of their holiday.

So what is there to do in a place that feels like one of the outposts of the modern world?

Enjoy fresh locally inspired cuisine

First things first, the food here is deliciously fresh and local. From the local market produce straight from Nosy Be, to the seafood – the lobster here is exceptional. The fishermen of Mitsio fish in the same way their ancestors have for many generations. Using pirogues (wooden boats) they arrive on the beach at Tsarabanjina to hand over their catch to our chefs to serve up that day. The very popular all-inclusive Cristal package means you don’t have to worry about anything while you’re with us.

Dive the pristine waters

Many guests come to Tsarabanjina for the diving. Whether you’re a pro or just want to get to grips with the sport in some of the most beautiful waters in the world, there are several sites to explore including the stunning tunnels at the Tétons or vibrantly coloured sponge gardens and near virgin reefs.

If you’re after more of an adrenalin kick, there is sports fishing for the likes of marlin, giant trevally, yellowfin tuna, sailfish and wahoos. Find out more about diving at Constance Tsarabanjina here.

Easy hiking and bird watching

Nature lovers can discover the rich biodiversity of Tsarabanjina. A guided walk around the island reveals the famous Traveller’s Palm and the Pachypodium. Bird lovers can catch sight of the long tailed Madagascan flycatcher, fish eagles, fody bird and more.

Indulge at the spa

The USpa at constance offers a range of treatments from massages to the outdoor shower set into a rock is a treat in itself.
