6 spa trends for 2014

In 2014 spas are no longer just about pampering and indulgence. Today’s sophisticated spa goers are looking for a more personal approach.

Spa trends 2014: destination spa breaks

Spa trends 2014: destination spa breaks

One of the major spa trends this year are destination spa breaks where you can combine travelling and exploring new cultures with improving your wellbeing.

Guests visiting Constance spas in Mauritius, Maldives, Seychelles and Madagascar can immerse themselves in the local culture of these beautiful islands then take time out to enjoy treatments based on local plants and traditional methods.

1. Treatments designed around you

‘Personalised wellness’ is big news this year in the spa world. At our spas, trained therapists will take the time to sit with you and listen to what you want from your spa experience. Whether your goal is to improve your health, de-stress, address a problem area or just lie back and relax, our therapists will create a program specifically for you.

2. Medi-spa and anti-ageing treatments

Spa treatments that address health problems or ageing issues with a holistic approach are becoming increasingly popular.

Brice Nicham’s medical manicures and pedicures at Constance Le Prince Maurice are proving on the of the must-book treatments at the hotel. While at Constance Halaveli, the Valmont Spa combines latest scientific breakthroughs in skincare with the purest natural Swiss ingredients to create a range of highly effective anti-ageing treatments.

3. Peace of body and mind

‘Mindfulness’ is the key word for those seeking wellbeing in 2014 and it is something that has led to a growing interest in meditation and yoga at spas over the last year.

Those seeking mental restoration at Constance can experience the calm and serenity of sunrise yoga or sunset meditation sessions on the beach, as well as mastering techniques of pranayama breathing.

Constance Halaveli and Constance Lémuria offer one-to-one yoga and meditation sessions.

Whether you choose a class or an individual session, our instructors will help you learn what you need to carry on your journey to mindfulness when you get home.

4. Taking new wellbeing skills home

The desire to return from a spa break with new knowledge and skills is another trend for 2014, with guests wanting to make a spa visit the starting point for a new healthier way of life.

Our personal trainers will offer guidance on health and nutrition and can devise fitness routines tailored to your day-to-day lifestyle.

5. Enjoying the great outdoors

Spas are moving outside in 2014 so that guests can reconnect with their environment and nowhere is this more inspiring than in our idyllic island locations.

Greet the morning sun with fitness guru Isabelle Lamant at Le Prince Maurice, take a health nature walk to one of the most beautiful beaches in the Seychelles at Lémuria or experience yoga in the fresh air of the yoga pavilion at Constance Ephélia.

6. Nutrition and weight-loss

Weight-loss has become a science in recent years balancing healthy eating and exercise to create sustainable results. In 2014 spa-goers are looking for nutrition and lifestyle advice to improve wellbeing.

Constance Le Prince Maurice has worked alongside Fast Diet co-creator Mimi Spencer to create an integrated approach to weight-loss which includes working with a personal trainer, special menus in the restaurants and dedicated spa treatments.

Why Seychelles is a top diving destination

The Seychelles is a year-round diving destination with a rich native marine population but different seasons can bring spectacular visitors to our waters.

The Seychelles is a magnificent diving destination

The Seychelles is a magnificent diving destination

Calm waters

Probably the best time for keen scuba divers to visit is during the calm climatic periods of April-May and October-November. At these times the water temperature can reach 29ºC and visibility is excellent (up to 30 metres).

Migrating giants

Probably the most famous and awe-inspiring guests are the vast whale sharks.

Although some of these gentle giants can be found in the waters of the inner islands all year round, large numbers pass through in August and again from October to January. The whale sharks are lured by the boom in plankton caused by warmer sea temperatures.

Also lured by the abundant plankton are the giant manta rays which delight many divers at this time of year.

Turtle nesting season

From October to February you are likely to see rare green turtles and hawksbill turtles.

The endangered hawksbill and green turtles return year after year to our quiet, idyllic beaches on the island of Praslin in the Seychelles between these months.

At Constance Lémuria our Turtle Manager monitors each nest and each turtle to ensure their safety. We will continue to watch the nests for the next two months until all the eggs have hatched.

Under the supervision of our Turtle Manager, guests at Lémuria can have the unique experience of watching the females come up on the beach to lay their eggs, and then in March to April see the baby turtles move down to the sea.
