Culinary Festival Bernard Loiseau 2014

The Culinary Festival Bernard Loiseau, held at Constance Belle Mare Plage, Mauritius, is a highlight of the international gastronomic calendar. Next year, the festival will celebrate its 9th year, taking place from 29 March to 6 April.

The festival pairs European Michelin-starred chefs with the best island cooks from across the Constance group in a week long competition.

The festival promotes an open sharing of ideas and culinary inspiration and techniques between the acclaimed chefs and their island counterparts.

Using only fresh local produce, sourced by the teams at the vibrant Mauritian market in Port Louis, each team must come up with an exciting, creative menu. This menu is then prepared by the island chefs on the final day and judged by a panel of leading culinary professionals.

The festival, a partnership between Constance Hotels & Resorts and the Relais Bernard Loiseau, was launched in 2006 to commemorate the chef Bernard Loiseau.

Guests at Belle Mare Plage and Le Prince Maurice during the festival can look forward to a week of sumptuous meals prepared by the visiting chefs, demonstrations and a celebratory awards dinner.

Top 5 tips for long haul flights

Arrive at your hotel feeling refreshed with our top tips for long haul travel from Sophie Demaret our Spa Manager at Constance Le Prince Maurice.

1. Before flying, use compression socks. They may not look sexy but they’re effective and will go unnoticed.

2. When you’re on the plane, avoid crossing your legs as it restricts your circulation.

3. During the flight, get up and move around. Taking just a few steps can help to revive your blood circulation.

4. Rub your ankles and then rotate them, first one way and then the other.

5. Massage your feet with a tennis ball that you roll under each foot – you’ll feel the benefits immediately.

Finally, once you’ve arrived at your hotel, head to the spa. At Le Prince Maurice, you can enjoy a cold shower on your legs, regenerate yourself with a sandalwood and cane sugar scrub, then follow it up with a 45 minute reflexology session. It will leave your legs feeling light and refreshed.

Wine training from Domaine Marcel Lapierre

Last week saw the exciting visit of Marie Lapierre of Domaine Marcel Lapierre to Constance Le Prince Maurice and Constance Belle Mare Plage for a wine tasting evening and fine wine training event.

Marie was accompanied by her daughter Camille, and together they introduced us to their stunning reds from the Château Cambon and the Vin de France Raisin Gaulois 2012.

Marie explained to our team of Constance sommeliers how the Domaine vines have been cultivated organically since 1981, and about how the wines are made in carbonic maceration.

The wines are light and fruity and can be enjoyed with fish, chicken, goats cheese, charcuterie or as an aperitif. Guests joined our sommeliers to taste the wines and find out more about Domaine Marcel Lapierre.
