Fabulous hillside villa

Constance Ephelia, Seychelles, together with EarthQuest Management Consultants have been awarded the prestigious Gold Award at the South African Landscape Industry awards ceremony, in recognition for superior landscape construction.

The monumental project of turning the idea of Constance Ephelia into reality was a huge undertaking. Ephelia is situated on a stretch of pristine beach, surrounded by 120 hectares of rare tropical vegetation.

The resort was designed by esteemed landscape design company, Colin Okashimo & Associates in Singapore. But it was due to EarthQuest Management Consultants that the spectacular design vision became reality. Key masterminds behind the project were:

  • Renzo Derksent supported by Garrith Brokensha and Brian Brigilia
  • Alex de Maroussem, who sourced and propagated all 195,000 plants at the resort

The final result of this mammoth undertaking is nothing short of spectacular.

Favoured as a top honeymoon destination, the island nation is also one of the world’s great success stories when it comes to protecting its flora and fauna.

Conservation work in the Seychelles was started in the 1960s by a group of local conservationists. Since then, the government has successfully introduced strict laws protecting the natural heritage of theSeychelles.

UNESCO World Heritage Sites

The Seychelles is home to two UNESCO World Heritage Sites.

1. The atoll of Aldabra
The world’s largest raised coral atoll, Aldabra is isolated and uninhabited. It’s home to the Aldabra giant tortoises. The average weight of one of these male tortoises is a whopping 550lbs (250 kgs).

2. Vallée de Mai on Praslin Island
Said to be the original ‘Garden of Eden’, Vallée de Mai is home to the world’s largest nut and prized fertility symbol, the Coco de Mer.

At Vallée de Mai, you’ll also find giant endemic palm trees and the rare Seychelles Black Parrot.

Coral reefs

Over 1000 species of fish have been recorded here, including yellow snappers, jack fish, fusilier, clown fish, humphead parrot fish, rays, lion fish, scorpion fish and barracuda. You’ll also find dolphins, whale sharks and sea turtles.

Colourful soft and hard corals fill the reefs, making this one of the top destinations in the world for diving and snorkelling.

Bird life

Turquoise waters and verdant green hills surrounding Constance Lemuria, Seychelles

At Constance Hotels, we are committed to protecting the stunning natural environments that surround each of our unique resorts, and the rare endemic species that can be found there.

We work closely with local environmental groups to conserve the exceptional landscape and wildlife for today’s visitors and future generations to come.

Here are some of the measures we’ve taken recently:

Design and build of Constance Moofushi – opened in November 2010

Known as the Jewel island – the island’s butterfly design and daring architecture has been developed by Jean-Michel d’Unienville (Mauritius) and Marc Hertrich (France). Careful consideration has been taken to preserve the environment through efficient and non-polluting materials.

The focus is on luxury without being flashy and the beauty of the island location is paramount. Find out more about what we did at The Jewel Island: Constance Moofushi

Enhancing biodiversity in the Seychelles

We are furthering our commitment to the environment by enhancing conservation of Biodiversity at Port Launay next to the Constance Ephelia Resort in the Seychelles.

We are working in partnership with Sustainability for Seychelles (S4S) and aim to:

  • take pro-active measures to improve the coordinated management of the fragile mangrove ecosystem adjacent to the Constance Ephelia Resort site – balancing development with the preservation of the wetland area.
  • start looking at co-management of other adjacent natural areas such as the resort grounds and Port Launay Marine Park

Treat yourself to a massage

I also treated myself to a massage while I was there. There are actually two different spas – the hotel’s own one, and the Shiseido one which I tried – but I’m sure they’d both be lovely. Just depends on which treatment you fancy.

The wedding co-ordinator and team were absolutely wonderful

“We chose this hotel after a lot of searching to get married in. The wedding coordinator and team were absolutely wonderful, you could not fault them. Special mention to the photographer they appointed, he was excellent. We had a minor problem with the time of the wedding and as a gift they gave us a night in private villa with butler service.”

It is certainly their fine dining restaurant… the food and service was top notch

fine dining at Belle Mare Plage Hotel Resort - Constance Hotels

Fine dining restaurants and excellent food!

“The Blue Penny cafe is actually far from being a cafe! It is certainly their fine dining restaurant – not cheap, but food and service was top notch. We treated ourselves to one meal here – however, look out for theme nights as they are excellent value. They only seat 40, so get in quick for those – they are snapped up!”
