Head sommelier at Constance Halaveli, Cedric Jacob, shares his top picks for South African wines and reveals which wines have made it onto the wine list at the resort.
Fine South African wines we’re currently serving at Halaveli are:
- Mullineux Family – Kloof Street red and white Granite Shcist
- Eben Sadie – Columella, Palladius, Soldaat, Skerpioen
And soon we’ll be adding:
- Lammershoek – La Roulette Blanche, Chenin Blanc
- David – Aristagos, Grenache Noir
And the best way to drink them…
These wines combined with our Chef’s selection of cheeses and cold cuts in Jing and Jahaz wine cellars is a must-do experience at Halaveli.
Wines from Swartland region
Cedric, and Constance corporate sommelier Jerome Fauré, discovered new wines at an exhibition of the latest up and coming South African vintages in Cape Town.
Cedric’s other top recommendations from the Cape Wine 2012 event are:
- Badenhorst – White Blend, Red Blend
- Silveris – Skin Fermented
- Annexkloof – Malbec
He was most impressed by wines from the Swartland region. The wines from the region Swartland really stood out because of the hard work that goes into making the wine. Wine makers from this region seek to produce wines that reflect the South African Terroir starting by analyzing the soils and subsoil, the climate or even micro climate, and identify which grapes will be the most suitable for the place they are.
