British Airways discovers the high life at Constance Moofushi

Constance Moofushi, Maldives

Constance Moofushi, Maldives

British Airways High Life magazine and website has raved about the excellent diving and laid back atmosphere at Constance Moofushi.

In her review Ianthe Butt described the 5* Maldivian resort as a place without stress, where ‘nothing is too much trouble for the staff’.

She says, ‘With soft sand on which to wander, plush rooms, communal areas with collapse-into-me couches, Moofushi is a truly relaxing place to stay.
When you leave you won’t step onto that seaplane, it’ll be more of a drift.’

A keen scuba diver, Ianthe Butt also noted the world class diving around the resort and the thrill of watching the marine life from the ‘gorgeous space’ of her water villa.

Night diving in the Maldives at Constance Moofushi

Night diving in the Maldives

Night diving in the Maldives

Night dives are a unique experience for many divers, enabling even the most experienced to see the ocean in a new way.

Few places offer such stunning night diving as at Constance Moofushi, located in the Maldives’ South Ari Atoll, and regarded as one of the best diving spots in the world.

What you’ll see by night

At night, diving in shallow waters, with only the light of a dive torch, the multitude of colours from the reef and the life it supports becomes even more apparent, as it stands out against the blackness.

The atmosphere on the reef at night is also very different from that experienced during the day. Predators go hunting, prey flees while other fish sleep quietly in holes or crevices.

Night divers are more likely to see certain species such as the Moray eel or octopuses emerging from their holes to hunt at night.

Some sea creatures use bioluminescence as a defence mechanism by ejecting glowing chemicals from their body to ward off danger. These appear as clouds of light under water, creating a beautiful sight for the night diver.

When to go whale watching in Madagascar

Every year between June and November more than 7,000 humpback whales migrate from the Antarctic to the waters of Madagascar to breed and calve.

Whale watching in Madagascar

Whale watching in Madagascar

During the mating season the male will put on dramatic displays of physical dominance and acrobatic stunts to vie for the attention of the females making for a truly awe-inspiring experience for spectators.

The government of Madagascar has put in place regulations to ensure that the whales are not disturbed or stressed by boats in the area. As a result most trips are hosted by experienced guides with a wealth of specialist knowledge.

One of the most amazing experiences for visiting whale watchers can be listening to the male’s unique whale song, one of the most complex vocal displays in the animal kingdom, via an on-board hydrophone.

Whale watching at Ile Ste Marie (June to September)

Situated on the Eastern shore of Madagascar this is an ideal place from which to watch the stunning mating rituals and calving of the whales.

Whale watching at Tsarabanjina/Nosy Be (August to November)

The migration through the waters off the North West coast of Madagascar is slightly later but you are still likely to see mothers with their calves and pods of whales showing off their breath-taking acrobatics.
