The best piece of honeymoon advice you'll ever been given

What’s the best piece of honeymoon advice you’ve ever been given?

We asked our Twitter followers what they felt the best honeymoon tips and advice for newly-weds was  – and some experts in honeymoons and people who have already had their honeymoons offered their advice.

As experts in providing luxury honeymoons in Mauritius, the Maldives, Madagascar and the Seychelles ourselves, we’ve also given you some of our top tips for planning your dream honeymoon in an earlier blog post.

We’d love to hear which bits of advice below you think are most pertinent – and why not leave a comment with your own tips and advice for people planning their once-in-a-lifetime luxury honeymoon?

@Amanda_Statham on Twitter said:

  • always catch sunset (most romantic part of day)
  • get your luggage delivered to your hotel
  • tell everyone you meet you’re honeymooners (you’ll get great service and freebies)
  • don’t get badly burnt on 1st day (it’s not sexy!)

@honeymoonsblog says:

  • Use a honeymoon gift list and let your friends and family contibute towards the cost of your honeymoon,” while @thehoneymoonpro suggest you should “start off by deciding on your budget – the last thing you want to do is worry about money on your honeymoon.

All great advice. @TurquoiseUK’s top tip was:

  • Decide on your honeymoon together! Make sure it’s what both of you are looking for.

Building on this theme, @joyologie suggests the following:

  • The one thing I always tell my couples is to really go someplace the two of you have never been before — make it a completely new experience for both of you.  That way it’s a special place and has special meaning for both the bride and groom, without the bride being able to also say she was there prior to the honeymoon. I also say, you only have one honeymoon, so make it count.  Go someplace you really want to go and figure out how to get there.  And that includes hotels as well.  Pamper yourself.  Maybe on future trips together you don’t need to spend so much, but it’s a honeymoon — go big!

Here at Constance Hotels Experience, we couldn’t agree more, @joyolgoie.

@MBDP_Tawsha on Twitter collected the following advice for honeymooners:

  • Do exactly what you want! That is the only thing about a wedging that is strictly just about the two of you.
  • Go big! Make your guests at the wedding eat finger foods instead of a 5 course meal if it’ll get you someplace fantastic for your honeymoon :)

And this pearl from @pugetsounddj: “Tradition shows it’s good luck to bring your DJ…”

@lexirob who didn’t manage to take a honeymoon at all told @MBDP_Tawsha:

  • Take one, even if it’s not a week long, tropical destination. Go somewhere together and enjoy your time! We never got to :(

Last but not least, @NickSavageIMT on Twitter said: “Stay at the Le Prince Maurice – thats all you need to do.”

Ah, thanks Nick – we couldn’t agree more, although we’re a little biased, it’s true.

What amateur golfers can learn from the Masters 2011

Legends Championship Golf Course, Belle Mare Plage, Mauritius

Legends Championship Golf Course, Belle Mare Plage, Mauritius

After the excitement, twists and turns of last week’s Golf Masters 2011 and our award for best golf course worldwide, we spoke to our resident professional, Sebastian Pilot, Golf Manager at the Constance Belle Mare Plage in Mauritius.

As the man in charge of not one but two 18 hole championship golf courses, he feels that if you’re going to watch one golf tournament all year, the Masters is the one not to miss.

While the Constance Belle Mare Plage doesn’t do anything specific to mark the Masters each year, Sebastian watched avidly at home. At the start, Mickelson was Sebastian’s favorite to win, but Jason Day’s performance was a pleasant surprise to him as the tournament progressed as he feels he was a worthy runner up.

While our Golf Manager felt Tiger Woods did a great job and is definitely coming back to form after recent times in this year’s Masters, he was very sad for Rory McIlroy because he played so well throughout the competition, he really felt he ought to win.

Other stand out golfers in the tournament for Sebastian were Adam Scott and of course, the eventual winner of the Masters 2011, Charl Swartzel.

So what does Sebastian think any budding or amateur golfers can learn from this year’s tournament?

“Amateurs will learn that it is a mental game,” he laughs “and that nothing is done before the last hole of the tournament.”

Top 3 diving sites in the Seychelles

The Seychelles is one of the greatest places for diving in the world. Featuring no less than 6 national marine parks, there’s an abundance of spectacular scuba diving and snorkeling opportunities.

Top 3 dive sites in the Seychelles

Top 3 dive sites in the Seychelles

The Seychelles is on the African continental shelf which means the sea is shallow in most dive sites (12 to 15 meters) which makes it perfect for novice divers who might be a little nervous – but it also has wildlife and wonderful diving experiences (such as wrecks) for established divers.

If you’re planning a luxury diving holiday, our diving experts at Constance Ephilia Resort, Seychelles, have come up with their top 3 dive spots, along with information about how to get there and why the dive site is so special.

1. Trois Bank

Location
Situated about 5 miles south east from Constance Ephelia Resort

How do you get to it
20 minutes by boat

What standard of diver do you need to be to visit it?
Experienced open water divers

Typical dive
The maximum depth at this site is 23 meters. With nice granite rocks formation, coral formation raised nearly to 4 meters to the surface; you could swim through these rocks.

Marine life
There are around 15-20 grey reef sharks most of the time. Groups of octopus, eagle rays, school of barracuda, bat fish, reef fishes and morays.

Visibility
Fantastic – most of the time 20/30 meters or more.

2. National Marine Park, Cap Ternay

Location
Next bay from Constance Ephelia Resort

How do you get to it?
12 minutes by boat

What standard of diver do you need to be to visit it?
Anyone from beginners to advanced qualified divers can enjoy this site.

Typical dive
Very calm bay, beautiful coral reef full of marine life, starting from its shallow reef (about 1 metre) to a maximum of 24 meters.

There is a large flat reef area with a gradual drop off from about 6 meters to 24 metres at 45 angles.

Diving with a Manta Ray, Seychelles

Diving with a Manta Ray

Marine life
Beautiful reef fishes, morays, lion fish, turtles, humphead parrot fish, trumpet fish, clown fish, and many other species.

From August to September, it is easily to meet the giant whale sharks and sometimes also the dolphins.

3. Dredger Wreck

Location
1 mile far from Bel Ombre Area, North/West coast Seychelles

How do you get to it?
20 minutes by boat

What standard of diver do you need to be to visit it?
This site is better suited to divers with experience of open water diving – more advanced divers are preferred.
There’s a small dredger (about 15 meters) for divers to explore. It was sunk on purpose for divers in the mid 80s. It lies at 27 meters depth near to a nice reef.

Marine life
The dredger wreck has created a nice hiding place for cat fish, morays, lobster, stone fish, lion fish, and scorpion fish. Big school of yellow snappers that cover the whole wreck.

Sometimes giant puffer fish and school of bat fish can be spotted, sting rays in the sand. In the mid water (above the wreck), there are always visitors like school of jack fish, fusilier and job fish.

Treat yourself to a massage

I also treated myself to a massage while I was there. There are actually two different spas – the hotel’s own one, and the Shiseido one which I tried – but I’m sure they’d both be lovely. Just depends on which treatment you fancy.

The wedding co-ordinator and team were absolutely wonderful

“We chose this hotel after a lot of searching to get married in. The wedding coordinator and team were absolutely wonderful, you could not fault them. Special mention to the photographer they appointed, he was excellent. We had a minor problem with the time of the wedding and as a gift they gave us a night in private villa with butler service.”

Fine dining restaurants and excellent food!

“The Blue Penny cafe is actually far from being a cafe! It is certainly their fine dining restaurant – not cheap, but food and service was top notch. We treated ourselves to one meal here – however, look out for theme nights as they are excellent value. They only seat 40, so get in quick for those – they are snapped up!”

Top 5 kids activities to do on a beach holiday

If you’re planning a beach holiday with your family, we’ve learned a few things about kids activities at our resorts – so here’s our top 5 to help you out:

Constance Hotels Experience

Constance Hotels Experience

1. Water parks

Age range: 4 years and up

Children (and adults) of all ages love water parks! First and foremost, it’s an outing, but what kids don’t love wave pools, giant slides, crazy rivers, inflatable tubes to sit in and a myriad of water slides to play on?

Many water parks also have other activities, like bumper cars. There are more relaxed pools for parents who don’t like the hustle and bustle and of course, there’s space to sunbathe.

We often run excursions to water parks twice a week because parents and children demand it, so if you’re planning a family holiday, check out the nearest water park

2: Crab hunting!

Age range: 4 – 12 year olds

Crab hunting is a fantastic activity for children on a beach holiday. Whether you’re staying at a luxury resort or are having a quieter family holiday in the sun, kids always enjoy hunting for crabs.

For most children, crab hunting isn’t something they can do in their everyday life. It gives them a chance to play in the sand with a purpose. And crabs claws and their sideways shuffling always gets kids going!

Make it a competition if you’ve got more than one child – they love to see who can catch the most crabs. Also, you don’t always have to do it in the day – children love crab hunting by torchlight on the beach!

At Constance Hotels, we know how popular this activity is because we run crab hunting as an activity for children staying at our resorts like the Belle Mare Plage resort in Mauritius. It’s not just the children who ask for more – parents often come back and book their children in for a repeat activity.

Diving - fish underwater

3. Scuba diving!

Age range: 8 years and up

Not all beach resorts will offer this service, but it’s great to get children initiated into Scuba diving while they are still young. Discovering life underwater is both educational and fun – and they love discovering that they can breathe underwater.

At the Constance Belle Mare Plage Resort, there is a dedicated Dive Master that will take maximum 5 children and the activity will take place in the pool in the shallower sections. Other beach resorts will have their own children’s dive schools and instructors, so find out before you go.

Finding flowers on the beach

4. Make flower necklaces!

Age range: 4-7 years

Children love searching for things, so how about creating a game of flower necklaces. First of all, your children need to search for flowers – preferably of different kinds. You could incorporate an educational aspect about the different flowers if you like.

Once the flowers are collected, you can then help them make them into wonderful flower necklaces for a fashion show!

At Constance Belle Mare Plage kids’ club, our hostess shows the children how to prepare their necklaces after they’ve found their flowers. For those who did not search for flowers – usually boys – the hostess will show them different tattoos. It is harmless for the skin and easily washable.

Even if you aren’t at a resort with a kids’ club, this is an activity the children love – and it’s free and easy.

5. Go local!

Ages: any age (4-12 for Dancing in Mauritius)

If you’re travelling abroad, what local customs could your children get involved with? Food, fun, dancing? Most places have local customs or traditions that are fantastic for your children to get involved with.

For example, in Mauritius, our hotels run Sega Traditional Dance of Mauritius classes. Children get to learn and rehearse a traditional Mauritian dance for a week before putting a show on for their parents – and other hotel guests! They get to dress up in traditional costume, dance and have a fantastic time. The parents love it and the children gain confidence from being in the show.

Kakoo kids clubs

More information about Constance Hotels Experience kids’ clubs

We have made the above recommendations for children’s activities on holiday because we’ve learnt from experience at our exceptional kids’ club at Constance Belle Mare Plage – these are the top activities our children love!

We have dedicated Mini club Hostess who welcomes children and parents at the club when they arrive. Everyone gets a Mini club folder explaining the opening times and activities and the interesting adventures that the children can discover.

Our Kids’ Club caters for children from 04 years to 12 years old and is open from 09h00 to 22h00. The mini club is surrounded with a nice wooden barrier where there is one access door.

Inside we have a small children’s pool, an area with partly sand and grass. There are Swings and slides where children can enjoy themselves. Terraces where children can enjoy paintings and read books and play games.

There’s a TV Corner to watch movies and another TV corner to play games. There is a small kitchen and a special air condition room for babies to sleep. There is the shower and Toilette corner specially design for children.

Parents are provided with a folder and the mini club daily activity sheet where they can see what is going on during the day.

What our customers are saying: reviews of our luxury hotels

Lobster, luxurious food

Lobster, delicious food

A true paradise
“I spent one week at the Lemuria Resort last year and it was a true paradise. I saw a lot of 5 and even 6 star resorts in my life and this resort made it definitively in the top10.

I tried all three restaurants and the food was always delicious. The Service during my stay was on a very high level without many flaws and reflects the 6 star standard of the resort.

One of the best things about this resort is its setting: The Lemuria has 3 private (and in this case they are really private – not like the Anse Intendance of the Banyan Tree) beaches.

So is it worth the money? Yes every cent as long as you love the nature of the Seychelles. Would I recommend this resort? Yes without a doubt.”

Golfing in Lemuria

Truly relaxing!
“Right from arrival at LeMuria both my boyfriend and I were impressed with the customer service. We were greeted, bags taken straight off us and we didnt see them until we were taken (by golf buggy) to our room by member of conceirge. The room was big, with a lovely balcony and a bathroom that had shutters so you could see the TV from the bath! (a real plus by my other halfs estimation!)
