Top 5 sites in Mauritius: the view from Le Pouce

Must see sites in Mauritius: the view from Le Pouce

Here are our pick of 5 must see sights in Mauritius.

1. Casela National Park

Whether you choose to hike through it, quad bike over it, take a Segway tour or fly through the air on one of the many ziplines which criss-cross the Casela National Park there is plenty to see and do here. Adventurers can try canyoning, rock climbing or just swimming in one of the many natural pools while nature enthusiasts can enjoy an African safari including a walk with lions.

2. The Coral Garden off Grand Bay

A stunning treat for keen scuba divers, large natural rock structures appear as giant underwater steps adorned by a variety of hard and soft corals including the spectacular gorgonian fan coral. This is a perfect site for spotting larger marine species including stingrays, eagle rays, titan triggerfish and even nurse sharks.

3. Port Louis Market

No trip to Mauritius would be complete without exploring the vibrant bustling life of Port Louis’ daily food market. Mix with local Mauritians as they buy fresh fish, meat, spices, fruit and vegetables and be sure to sample some of the delicious street food on sale like the famous gateaux piments (fried chilli cakes).

4. The view from Le Pouce (Mauritius’ tallest peak)

With 360º views around the island including a stunning view over the capital Port Louis, a hike up Le Pouce (part of the Moka mountain range) is a must for the more adventurous visitor. Despite its height of 811m, the walk is a relatively easy one, making it a perfect day trip for those looking for an alternative to lounging in the sun.

5. Rochester Falls

This stunning waterfall of clear, fresh water tumbling down dramatic lava cliffs is a perfect spot for swimming and picnicking. Those brave enough can prove themselves by diving from the falls into the deep pool below.

What you need to know for a holiday in Maldives

If you’re planning a trip to the Maldives then you probably already know about the white sand beaches, clear crystal waters and idyllic climate.

Arrive at Constance Moofushi by seaplane

Arrive at Constance Moofushi by seaplane

Here are some other things you need to know for a holiday in Maldives.

1. Arriving by seaplane is one of the highlights of the holiday

Make sure you’ve got your camera to hand as you board the seaplane at Malé Airport because you’re going to want it. Arriving at your resort by seaplane is one of the most stunning introductions to the nation of Maldives you can imagine with views across the Indian Ocean dotted with stunning white sand coral islands.

2. The Maldives is child-friendly

The Maldives may have a reputation as a honeymoon destination but that doesn’t mean that it’s not the perfect place to take kids for a family holiday. For younger kids try a beach or family villa rather than a stilted one over the water and relax beside your own pool while you watch the little ones play on the beach. Constance Halaveli even offers a complimentary Kids Club so the kids will have plenty to do.

3. Swim with some of the ocean’s gentle giants

The waters around the Maldives are home to a wide range of stunning marine life but few get the pulse racing as much as manta rays and whale sharks. These graceful giants pass through our waters from November to April.

4. Each Maldivian island has its own coral reef encircling a lagoon

The Maldives is made up of 1,190 coral islands spread across 26 atolls covering an area of more than 90,000sq kilometres. Each island has its own coral reef and lagoon which protects it from the wind and wave action of the vast surrounding ocean. It is the islands’ uniquely isolated location that make the Maldives feel like a secluded haven away from the modern world.

5. Maldivian culture is a unique combination of global influences

With influences from the Middle East, Africa, Asia and Europe the Maldivian culture offers a unique blend of music, tradition and cuisine. Influences can be found in the curries which are a staple in the Maldivian cuisine, music played on the traditional bodu-beru drum which resembles an African drum and the local dhoni boats used by the fishermen which are similar in design to the Arabian dows.

Luxury service: reuniting teddies with the children who love them

What people look for in a luxury holiday is as varied as the guests we welcome to Constance.

Reuniting teddies with the children who love them - all part of our luxury service

Reuniting teddies with the children who love them – all part of our luxury service

While an idyllic location tops many a wish list, it’s the quality of personal service that can really make or break a holiday.

So when our youngest guests leave a beloved cuddly friend behind we make it our mission at Constance to reunite these teddies, bunnies or blankets with the children who love them as quickly as possible.

When Carlotta left her ‘blankie’ at Constance Halaveli her mum sent us an email to tell us her daughter couldn’t get to sleep without her much loved blanket. We deployed our laundry department to hunt down the missing blanket – we soon found it and quick sharp sent it back to Carlotta, much to her delight.

Five year old Evi recently left her pink teddy at Halveli. We found the teddy in the room after she and her family had left, and so we’ve sent teddy on an adventure to be reunited with Evi.

Meanwhile at Constance Le Prince Maurice our staff gave a baby guest a Prince Maurice teddy as a memento of his time with us. A few years later we received an email from his mother saying it had become his favourite teddy, but through years of love he had almost worn it out.

We can’t resist a tale of love, and so we posted a new teddy to our young guest, a new friend from Mauritius.

Inspired by our passion to create experiences that our guests will remember forever, we also haven’t lost sight that sometimes it’s the little things that make all the difference.
