Constance Halaveli staff rescue reef shark

Constance Halaveli staff hit the headlines this month for the rescue of a small black tip reef shark which had become entangled in a piece of rope.

The shark was spotted by concerned guests, including Austrian journalist Maggies Entenfellner, who saw the shark swimming in the waters around Halaveli with a piece of rope constricting its neck.

The guests alerted Halaveli manager Dominik Kuenstle who set his team the difficult task of catching the shark in shallow waters and freeing it from its dangerous necklace.

We contacted Kolumne to let her know that the shark was safe and well, and she’s since written about what happened in the Austrian newspaper Kronen Zeitung.

Rebuilding the coral reef in Seychelles

This month has seen the beginning of an exciting coral garden restoration program in the waters of Petite Anse Kerlan at Constance Lémuria.

The project, which we are running in partnership with Nature Seychelles, is the first ever large-scale active reef restoration using ‘coral gardening’ in the region.

This important pilot scheme involves collecting small pieces of healthy coral and raising them in underwater nurseries until they are large enough to replant in an areas effected by coral bleaching.

The coral being used at Petite Anse Kerlan has been grown for several years in a ‘coral farm’ in the waters beyond Cousin Island.

Divers from France and Australia are planting the healthy coral just a few metres away from the shore and we hope that in a few weeks it will be growing into a healthy, beautiful coral garden for our guests to enjoy.

This exciting, rewarding project has been made possible thanks to funding from the Government of Seychelles, United Nations Development Program and Global Environmental Fund through their Small Grants for Environmental NGO-Tourism Operator Partnership Program, to which we are very grateful.

At Le Prince Maurice, you can select the champagne you prefer from our main wine list.

The Sabrage ceremony includes:

  • The sabrage champagne opening
  • A selection of canapés as an appetiser to accompany your champagne

Artisan ceramics set off world-class food at Culinary Festival Bernard Loiseau

In our on-going quest to source the best from across the globe to bring back for our guests, Head Sommelier Jerome Faure introduced the unique, handmade ceramics from Jars Céramistes to this year’s Culinary Festival Bernard Loiseau in Mauritius.

The idea was conceived during a conversation about the festival with leading winemaker Maxime Graillot over a glass of wine at Constance Le Prince Maurice earlier this year.

The pair discussed how the best dish deserved to be served on the very best plates and Graillot recommended the small, French artisan ceramics factory, Jars.

The ceramics included plates and tableware used at the Blue Penny Café and Deer Hunter restaurant on the first day of the competition, as well as for guests to present dishes following a private cooking class with Chef Patrick Bertron.

The beautiful simple design of the ceramics are based around the elements of nature, and were designed to create a poetic blend of beauty and utility.

Jerome, organiser of this year’s Culinary Festival, believes the stylish simplistic ceramics helped enhance the elegance of the dishes presented on them.

Luxury service: reuniting teddies with the children who love them

What people look for in a luxury holiday is as varied as the guests we welcome to Constance.

Reuniting teddies with the children who love them - all part of our luxury service

Reuniting teddies with the children who love them – all part of our luxury service

While an idyllic location tops many a wish list, it’s the quality of personal service that can really make or break a holiday.

So when our youngest guests leave a beloved cuddly friend behind we make it our mission at Constance to reunite these teddies, bunnies or blankets with the children who love them as quickly as possible.

When Carlotta left her ‘blankie’ at Constance Halaveli her mum sent us an email to tell us her daughter couldn’t get to sleep without her much loved blanket. We deployed our laundry department to hunt down the missing blanket – we soon found it and quick sharp sent it back to Carlotta, much to her delight.

Five year old Evi recently left her pink teddy at Halveli. We found the teddy in the room after she and her family had left, and so we’ve sent teddy on an adventure to be reunited with Evi.

Meanwhile at Constance Le Prince Maurice our staff gave a baby guest a Prince Maurice teddy as a memento of his time with us. A few years later we received an email from his mother saying it had become his favourite teddy, but through years of love he had almost worn it out.

We can’t resist a tale of love, and so we posted a new teddy to our young guest, a new friend from Mauritius.

Inspired by our passion to create experiences that our guests will remember forever, we also haven’t lost sight that sometimes it’s the little things that make all the difference.
