This 2-hour treatment was created by skin-care specialist Shiseido exclusively for the spa at Constance Belle Mare Plage. It begins with a Japanese foot ritual, a back scrub and massage and finishes with a 75 minute Qi facial treatment. Pure bliss.

2. Top to Toe Traveller’s Massage

Offered at the Spa de Constance, Constance Ephelia, this restorative full body massage is designed to combat the effects of jet lag, fatigue and stress leaving you free to enjoy the rest of your holiday relaxed and refreshed.

3. Brice’s Pedicure

Brice Nicham is a world-renowned podiatrist who brings his expertise to the Sisley spa at Constance Le Prince Maurice. 4. Golfer’s Tonic

This stimulating massage aids relaxation and prepares the muscles used in golf to help prevent strains or injuries. By improving suppleness it reduces the risk of inflammation before or after your round. Available at Belle Mare Plage, Le Prince Maurice and Lemuria.

5. Wrinkle Lifting Facial

Offered at the Shiseido spas at Lemuria, Belle Mare Plage and Ephelia this treatment gives skin supple resilience by massaging special anti-ageing lotions and vitamin E capsules into the skin before wrapping the face in a Japanese mask of moisture.

6. Sisley’s Men’s Facial

Available at the Sisley Spa at Le Prince Maurice this facial has been designed by the French skin-care specialist specifically for men. It is a Phyto-Aromatic treatment which leaves the skin well hydrated and toned.

7. Valmont After Diving Treatment

The space at the Treatment Pavilion, Constance Halaveli Resort is enough to induce calm serenity  thanks to its beautiful setting on stilts over the ocean. It makes the perfect place for divers to rejuvenate their skin. This is a 45-minute treatment featuring hydrating masks and massage.

Recipe: Moussaka at Constance Moofushi

We’ve gathered recipes and influences from across Europe, put them in our basket and brought them over to our idyllic Maldivian island. Some of our favourites include our Asparagus salad, Baba Ghanoush salad, Moutabel salad, Bell pepper chakchouka, Hummus, marinated artichoke and this dish, our famous Moofushi Moussaka.

  • Potatoes
  • Minced meat – lamb, beef or a mixture of both
  • Tablespoons butter
  • Tinned tomatoes or 1 tablespoon tomato paste
  • Grated cheese – cheddar, parmesan or kefalotiri
  • Onion, chopped
  • Parsley, finely chopped
  • Oil for frying
  • Salt, pepper
  • French toast (friganies), or dried breadcrumbs

For the Bechamel Sauce

  • Butter
  • Plain flour
  • Milk, (warmed, but not boiling)
  • Egg yolks
  • Salt, pepper
  • Grated cheese, cheddar, parmesan or kefalotiri

Preparation

1. Peel the potatoes, wash well and slice into 1/4 inch round slices.
2. Fry the potatoes both sides.
3. Remove from pan and place on absorbent paper to soak up any excess oil.
4. Melt the butter in a saucepan and sauté the chopped onion, fry the ground meat (lamb or beef) until browned.
5. Add the finely chopped tomatoes (or paste), salt, pepper and parsley.
6. Cover and simmer until most of the juices are dried up.
7. Remove from the heat.
8. In a greased baking tray, sprinkle the French toast on the bottom of the tray.
9. Place half the potatoes in a layer on the bottom of the baking tray.
10. Sprinkle 1/3 of the grated cheese over the potatoes.
11. Pour all the mince meat sauce over the potatoes and spread evenly.
12. Finish with the rest of the potatoes in a layer over the meat sauce.
13. Prepare the béchamel sauce and pour evenly over the potatoes.
14. Sprinkle the remaining cheese over the sauce and then about 2 tablespoons of the ground French toast or breadcrumbs on top.
15. Bake in a medium oven (180C) for approximately 30-40 minutes, or until it reaches a nice golden colour.
16. Remove from the oven and leave it to stand for 5-10 minutes to set before cutting into portions.

Serve with fresh crusty bread and a crisp green salad.

Situated at Constance Belle Mare Plage, the 18-hole, par 72 Legend Golf Course was designed by South African golf champion Hugh Baiocchi. It’s built to USPGA specifications using tif dwarf grasses.

David Frost, former MCB Open Champion, describes the course, ‘ At the Legend you can ensure a velvet-soft playing surface. The course has some great, challenging tee shots and under pressure you need to hit the fairways. From there it is target golf to the pins as well.’

Visit Constance Lodge Tsarabanjina from August to November, and you stand a good chance of spotting humpback whales as they make their way to one of their favoured breeding grounds off the Malagasy mainland.

Every year, these majestic creatures leave the cold waters of the Antarctic seeking out the warmer waters closer to the Equator. Many humpback whales swim to the channel between Ile Sainte-Marie off the East coast of Madagascar to breed.

It’s estimated there are only 10,000-15,000 humpback whales in the world. An endangered species, they have a life expectancy of 45-50 years.
